Happy National Indigenous Peoples Day

On National Indigenous Peoples Day we’d like to join the celebration with our own good news. We recently passed our audit and have achieved Phase Two of the Committed level of Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) certification.

PAR is a third-party certification program run by the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business. Like any third-party certification program, PAR holds companies to account and makes sure they are putting action to their words.

In this last year, we did the following work which allowed us to progress to the next level:

  • Conversations with Indigenous communities informed our decision making
  • We developed a communications plan for internal and external Indigenous Relations
  • Senior leadership personally reinforced their commitment to Indigenous Reconciliation
  • We continued developing internal cultural awareness training programs. Below are videos of two employees from Skookumchuck Pulp talking about their experience last year as part of our recently published sustainability report, Forward Focused: 2022 Sustainability Report

Since the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business launched their Progressive Aboriginal Relations program in 2001, it remains the premier corporate social responsibility program with an emphasis on Indigenous relations.

Khushbu Vandara, Environmental Supervisor talks about her experience of taking part in Indigenous-led cultural awareness training at Skookumchuck Pulp.
