Our energy basket is made up of 82% of renewable sources of biomass fuel and hydroelectric power.

What are the two types of steam-generating boilers at your mill sites?
Firstly, there is the Recovery Boiler which processes the pulping chemicals and incinerates organic materials to produce high pressure steam. The second is a Biomass Boiler, which burns primarily bark and other wood residues that are produced during the milling process.
How is the energy measured and tracked?
Our mills have control rooms that measure and track all the energy entering and flowing through our process in real time. We use the data from our real time energy data to calculate what our greenhouse gas (GHG) impact will be.

We have a combined annual paper production capacity of 512,000 million tonnes.
What is the main ingredient in all Catalyst paper products?
The main ingredient is renewable wood fibre that has been converted into pulp. We use responsibly sourced fibre in the form of wood chips, which are byproducts of lumber manufacturing and remaining pulp log that is unsuitable for lumber manufacturing.
What are the six steps in the paper making process?
The six steps in the paper making process include Mechanical Pulping, Post-Refining, Sheet Formers, Pressing and Drying, Calender Stack, and Reels and Rolls.
What is kraft pulp?
Kraft pulp is a distinctively high-strength type of pulp and a key building block of many familiar and important products in our daily lives. Kraft pulp is produced through a chemical process that preserves the long fibers of the wood, resulting in a strong and durable material. This process makes it ideal for creating a variety of paper-based products, from packaging to high-quality writing paper.
How is kraft pulp made?
We make kraft pulp by mixing wood fibres with a solution of caustic soda and sodium sulphide, and cooking them inside a digester. This separates the fibres from the lignin, which is a natural glue-like substance that binds them together.
What is Paper Excellence kraft pulp made from?
Our kraft pulp is made from our responsibly sourced fibre. We use a lower-impact elemental chlorine-free bleaching process. With our chain-of-custody systems using globally recognized standards.

Some specific examples include, wood-free printing and writing papers, office papers, photocopy converting paperman, household tissue, towel, hygienic grades, commercial tissue papers, food or beverage contact applications, industrial papers, fibre cement, and plastic-fibre composites.
