FUNDING, LUMBER SUPPORT
But there continues to be help extended to those living through the impacts of the wildfire.

On Oct. 11, pulp manufacturer Paper Excellence Canada announced a $175,000 contribution to support the ongoing recovery efforts for individuals, families, and communities in Shelburne and Barrington affected by the wildfires.

Of that, $115,000 will directly support families who are rebuilding damaged and destroyed homes, and $60,000 will support the We Rise Again Fund – Shelburne County.

Paper Excellence is grateful for its contribution partners, Freeman Lumber and Scotsburn Lumber, who are providing more than $66,000 in in-kind lumber donations to support rebuilding efforts. Wilson’s Home Hardware in Barrington is also helping to provide families with building supplies.

Jean-Francois Guillot, Chief Operating Officer of Paper Excellence Canada, stands amongst some of the donated lumber that will help people recovering from the wildfires in Shelburne County. The company announced a $175,000 contribution on Oct. 11 to support the recovering and rebuilding efforts.

“The wildfires of June 2023 were incredibly devastating for many Nova Scotians and left numerous families with damaged and destroyed homes,” says Jean-Francois Guillot, Chief Operating Officer of Paper Excellence Canada. “We are hopeful that our contribution and the support of our partners will offer reprieve to those families most impacted.”

Guillot tells Saltwire people helping people is so important.

“Companies are made of people,” he says. “It’s easy for companies to say I’ll donate money to the Red Cross. Then your job is done.”

In fact, Paper Excellence did donate $25,000 to the Canadian Red Cross fires appeal earlier this year.

“We felt that we can do more than that, and with the help of the community,” Guillot says. “If you work together … you can take a bad situation and make it, not a perfect one, but at least move on with a solution.”
